Botswana Country Report 2011

The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) continues to implement the three divisional strategies in its quest to rid Botswana of corruption and economic crime. This is solely because the strategy continues to be the best by international practice and works quite well for the Directorate. Several strides have been achieved in the implementation of this strategy of investigation, prevention and education.

The long term Strategic Plan for 2010-2016 continues to be implemented and its benefits are starting to trickle in although it is still too early to ride on and celebrate the preliminary achievements. The Plan is different from the previous plans as it aims at focusing more on proactive strategies such as forming strategic partnerships with key stakeholders to fight corruption, intensifying public education and strengthening the preventive efforts and improving skills capacity and competencies amongst others. Ever since its establishment in 1994, the DCEC was reviewed to have tremendously improved among all other government departments and ministries, a score that was never recorded before year 2010.
